Toss

The toss is always an integral component in determining the outcome of a cricket match, with winning it often determining whether one team bats first or fields first; often those batting first will score more runs than those fielding first; if conditions are poor or wet it may be preferable for one side to field first because the ball may spin more rapidly under these circumstances.

West Indies made an explosive start to their innings, racing to 94/1 within 10 overs behind Shai Hope and Alick Athanze’s devastating partnership. But then disaster struck as big names faltered when needed most. Bangladesh made swift work of their target and collapsed from an earlier dominating position of 106/1 to 149/9 within 10 overs – forcing West Indies out in their run chase.

Akeal Hosein and Romario Shepherd led an exceptional Windies bowling performance that effectively put Bangladesh to bed in the middle overs. Exploiting turn on an uneven pitch that offered little for batters to latch onto, they successfully extracted genuine bounce and used subtle variations in pace as they strangled their chase.

Shepherd strikes again to remove Tanzid Hasan, who couldn’t quite get his timing right when trying to go over point but couldn’t hit his target with his delivery on off. Instead, his ball flew wide towards deep backward point where Brandon King took an impressive reverse-cupped catch to defeat Hasan and claim victory for himself and England.

Taskin Ahmed then broke the fourth-wicket stand with an aggressive delivery from Taskin Ahmed that angled into off and hit Brandon King on his top edge as he tried to drive it, leading him to short and being caught at backward point, seemingly pushing West Indies towards defeat and potentially the series clean sweep. They’ll look forward to their third and final T20I against Bangladesh at Chattogram on October 31 – hoping they can send home fans with an impressive result that gives their supporters hope of an immediate comeback!

Batting order

The batting order is the sequence in which each team’s batters take part in each innings of a game, with opening batters often used to start the innings off right and middle order batters adapting their approach depending on what the situation calls for; while lower order batsmen usually include players with poorer batting skills or new members that have not yet reached playing time in either middle or upper orders.

Bangladesh will hope to reverse their poor batting performances against West Indies in this series. Their top order collapsed during the first T20I and they will hope that Litton Das can step up and provide stability at the top of their innings, while Towhid Hridoy and Tanzim Hasan Sakib will play pivotal roles at chasing runs at the back end.

Both teams will look to build on their momentum in this match; with the winner taking an initial 1-0 advantage in the three-match series. In the opening T20I, Windies posted an impressive total of 165/3 in their innings before comfortably reaching home thanks to Shai Hope and Rovman Powell providing solid support.

Bangladesh’s selectors have made changes to their squad for this match, recalling Soumya Sarkar and adding wicketkeeper-batsman Mahidul Islam Ankon as part of an attempt to reinvigorate their batting unit after its poor showing against Afghanistan in their previous ODI match. This reshuffle should help revitalize their batsmen after their poor performance against them in that final ODI match.

Bangladesh must drastically strengthen their batting order if they wish to avoid another humiliating defeat. Soumya Sarkar showed promise with an excellent fifty in the second ODI but failed to add to it, while Saif Hassan and Najmul Hossain Shanto have struggled. It is time that their top three batsmen begin producing big scores more consistently or else Bangladesh will have to rely solely on Rishad Hossain’s runs down the order as their sole source of runs; additionally they will need ways of dealing with spin better on these Dhaka pitches.

Bowling

West Indies bowlers were instrumental to their victory, as they limited Bangladesh’s innings. Shai Hope scored an unassailable fifty while Alick Athanaze’s lightning 52 put West Indies over the line to post a competitive total of 149; by contrast, Bangladesh struggled for momentum, losing wickets frequently and eventually falling to 41/4 before recovering to 77/6; Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain attempted to spark comeback but both were quickly dismissed leaving too much work for tail.

Akeal Hosein’s tight spell in the Powerplay provided Windies with an edge against Bangladesh, taking two wickets with his first over and another from Romario Shepherd in his next one – Jaker Ali mistimed a pull to long midwicket while Athanaze was taken at short midwicket as their hopes began to diminish.

Rovman Powell’s masterful knock helped the Windies take an early advantage in this three-match series, with Holder and Seales providing important support roles. Powell’s hundred was the highlight of a remarkable team performance.

West Indies are clear favorites to win this match, but their batting performance must improve if they want to avoid an embarrassing whitewash. Luckily, they have ample time before their third and final Twenty20I on October 31.

Bangladesh may have lost the first T20I by an overwhelming 16 runs, but they still have the opportunity to salvage a respectable finish in Friday’s final T20I by playing smart cricket and hitting squarely and with conviction from their batsmen if they wish to make any adjustments and salvage something out of this season for themselves. On the other hand, West Indies will be keen on winning all three T20I matches on tour in order to complete a clean sweep and confirm themselves as T20I world champions since India in 2008. West Indies hope their dominance continues when hosting Ireland on Test 2 of this tour in Belfast later this week.

West Indies made up for their disappointing start against Bangladesh with an outstanding batting performance at Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram in their second T20I. Even after losing three wickets during the powerplay period, they managed to post a respectable total of 149 and ultimately win by 14 runs due to Akeal Hosein and Jason Holder’s excellent spell that demolished Bangladesh’s chase of that total.

The two teams will square off once more in the third and final T20I match on October 31 at the same venue, desperately searching for victory after having suffered two consecutive defeats in this series. If they can come out swinging against each other with an impressive performance this time around, it could give their hopes of qualifying for World Cup 2025 a much-needed boost.

Taskin Ahmed gives Bangladesh the early breakthrough! He bowls a gentle 136kph delivery on off, and Brandon King drives with no foot movement but still manages to hit it straight towards Hridoy at long-on. Hridoy does well to stop its progress into Hridoy’s gloved hands – giving his hosts an ideal start!

Athanaze is on the cusp of his half century! In an attempt to play for one off a short ball, Athanaze attempts a big pull but mistimes it, sending it soaring high over midwicket for Tanzid Hasan to catch and put pressure back onto Bangladesh.

Holder strikes again! A perfect yorker from him crashes against Shamim Hossain’s off stump, forcing a late shot that misses its target by pace and distance. Bangladesh’s last pair of specialist batters are struggling and their chase looks likely to falter as time runs out on them.

Athanaze and Hope remain at the crease, but things don’t look ominous for them. Athanaze makes an attempt at hitting an aggressive six off the first ball of each over but fails miserably and sends it straight towards short fine leg. Things appear to have settled down since then though it won’t be an easy chase as Akeal Hosein takes his final over.
