Mohammed Siraj’s fiery 3-for-19 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru was instrumental in helping Gujarat Titans (GT) pull off an eight-wicket win at Chinnaswamy Stadium against his former side. Bowling at speeds in excess of 140kph, Siraj rattled batters during powerplay before also picking up key wickets during death overs.
RCB are in impressive form so far this season and are eager to perform in front of their home crowd, winning two out of three matches so far and being considered favourites to win this game.
First Over
Shubman Gill and Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans demonstrated superb batting acumen as they perfectly assessed conditions in this matchup. Both took minimal risks as they built an opening stand of minimal risk before Rutherford came in to raise the asking rate and Hazlewood kept asking rate in check after break without taking wickets from powerplay; their lack of penetration through middle exposed RCB as they started with 66/1 in their opening over.
Note that any wagers placed on the scorecard will become null and void once the game has concluded.
Seventh Over
Billy Stanlake eventually saw to Johnson Charles’ demise, signaling the beginning of a gradual collapse for the Hurricanes, who fell to 65-3 by their next over. Imran Tahir removed Odean Smith and Mohammad Nabi before Usama Mir lbw-ed Evin Lewis and Sherfane Rutherford to give Amazon Warriors control – until Motie struck again, taking two wickets off three balls with Chaudhary stumped first ball before trapping Wright for 16 off his fourth.
Eighth Over
Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 73-ball knock, combined with contributions by Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan helped Gujarat Titans secure an eight-wicket win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M Chinnaswamy Stadium tonight – their second of the season and four points earned! This marks their second success of 2019.
Even after losing their captain Shubman Gill for a laboured 14 in the fifth over, Titans batsmen managed to keep asking rate within acceptable levels by utilising intelligent use of ball. Sudharsan played an elegant innings which featured some deft wrist flicking for two off Yash Dayal and square cutting off Josh Hazlewood – an example being Sudharsan who struck an elegant two-wicket innings off both batsmen.
Mohammed Siraj enjoyed a memorable homecoming as he picked up two key wickets early on – Virat Kohli in his opening over and Liam Livingstone shortly thereafter. Additionally he finished up with three wickets in total for an impressive 3-fer night’s work.
