Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the greatest players in the league and one of the primary reasons behind the Milwaukee Bucks remaining unbeaten this season. He scored 31 points against Detroit Pistons in a close game and has recorded four triple-doubles. Additionally, his impressive scoring ability is complimented with an exceptional passing game; averaging over nine assists per game and being recognized multiple times as an All-Star point guard in NBA.
The Lakers and Bucks have an enviable record for playing high-scoring games, and this one was no exception. Both sides scored plenty of points while both defenses performed admirably; although the Lakers struggled defending against Bucks’ offensive plays they managed to pull through with victory at the end of this one.
Giannis Antetokounmpo (Giannis for short) is an All-Star and averages 41 points per game, as well as being an excellent rebounder and double-double threat. Unfortunately, however, his health remains an unknown – as he has recently suffered from knee issues that may prevent him from playing some future games.
Giannis set a career high of seven blocks during Milwaukee’s 96-116 win against Chicago on December 31, 2016. Additionally, he recorded 35 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for an outstanding all-around performance that made him one of the best players in the NBA that day.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had an outstanding game against the Thunder on Sunday night, scoring 30 points and 19 rebounds to cap an outstanding performance since returning from injury. Additionally, he broke Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s franchise record for most points scored by a center.
Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Bucks has been playing through a right knee injury, but is expected to be healthy enough for Wednesday’s matchup against Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs. This makes him available for fantasy managers; and should he remain healthy throughout, the Bucks could make a strong push in the Eastern Conference if Giannis stays on the court.
D’Angelo Russell
D’Angelo Russell is a point guard who currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. Over his NBA career, Russell has appeared in 571 games as both starter and substitute; scoring double-digit efforts 62 times over. An adaptable player, Russell can switch positions between point and shooting guard positions as needed.
The Lakers entered this game with an 0-2 record and needed a big win to keep their playoff hopes alive. While they started slow, their pace picked up during the second quarter. While Bucks took an early lead, Lakers responded with their own big run that tied it at halftime; then Russell’s stellar third quarter performance propelled their victory comeback victory.
Without LeBron James for the remainder of this season, Los Angeles relies heavily on younger players such as D’Angelo Russell to keep them competitive and deliver victory against Milwaukee Bucks in preseason debut. Though off to a slow start against them, Russell rallied his teammates into contributing and had an outstanding third quarter performance to help spark Lakers comeback victory.
Although they won a significant victory on Friday, the Lakers still face significant obstacles in improving their record. At least four wins from their remaining six games must be won to be considered playoff contenders; but with their talented young roster and veteran leaders leading them forward, it appears likely they can make another run at postseason glory this season.
The young Bucks opened up a 15-point lead in the third quarter, but their bench squad started chipping away at it with three-pointers from Quincy Olivari and Maxwell Lewis to close it down. While Bucks continued dominating in the fourth quarter, Lakers forced overtime where both teams traded baskets before eventually coming out on top 107-102 en route to improving their record to 2-3 and keep playoff hopes alive.
Rui Hachimura
Rui Hachimura is one of the NBA’s most promising young players and was honored with a first-round draft pick this year. Since becoming part of the Lakers lineup this past summer, Hachimura has established himself both on defense and off. He scored 29 points during his playoff debut alone en route to helping them begin 2019 on an impressive 4-2 start.
Starting off slow, Milwaukee started dominating in the second quarter, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis’ hitting several shots that gave Milwaukee an insurmountable lead that Lakers could never match up against.
Hachimura drove into the lane late in the third quarter and converted on a layup, giving the Lakers a short lead. But soon thereafter, Milwaukee went on a 16-2 run to regain their edge, leading by an 82-74 margin at quarter’s end.
In the fourth quarter, the Lakers attempted to rally, but were held off by Bucks defense. LeBron James and Anthony Davis each scored 11 points in this period – not enough to match scoring of Bucks frontcourt which extended its lead by 17 points with four minutes left but Austin Reaves and Anthony Davis rallied the Lakers within two points of pulling ahead.
Overtime was tight throughout with each team exchanging leads throughout. Turnovers and free throw opportunities gave the Lakers an edge, including Giannis missing two free throws while Antonio Davis made three three-pointers to tie it at 123-121. The teams then exchanged three pointers until Giannis missed two more free throws that gave him an opportunity to score.
First overtime period ended with the Bucks leading 127-124, followed by second overtime where neither team scored, leading to some missed free throws by both sides that allowed Lakers to claim victory 128-124 despite Giannis Antetokounmpo scoring 30 points and Damian Lillard contributing 27 with 8 assists; Lakers improved to 6-4 record, facing Orlando Magic next on Wednesday at home.
Jae Crowder
Jae Crowder is an adaptable wing player who has spent 13 seasons in the NBA. After spending two seasons with Milwaukee Bucks, he recently signed with Sacramento Kings this season after averaging 6.2 points per game and 3.2 rebounds last year with them. Crowder boasts strong three-point shooting skills while being known for having great defensive presence as well as possessing an exceptional feel for the game.
The Lakers began their six-game road trip against the Milwaukee Bucks with an exciting match. For most of the first half, this contest remained close, with Milwaukee taking an early two-point advantage at the end of the first quarter behind Giannis Antetokounmpo’s early dominance in getting to the basket on his initial attempt and drawing foul line trips en route to an 11-8 advantage in points for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Meanwhile, LeBron James hit an important late jumper that brought back 5 points.
In the second quarter, the Bucks continued their dominance of Lakers by increasing their lead with Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis both contributing significant baskets. Although Lakers attempted a comeback, an offensive technical foul called against LeBron James enabled Bucks to end half with a double-digit advantage.
Even after their loss, the Lakers remain in good position to make the playoffs. Currently in ninth place in the West and trailing sixth-placed Golden State Warriors by 2.5 games, they still possess six road games left on their schedule and need four wins out of those six to secure playoff berth.
The Bucks and Lakers share a longstanding rivalry, competing across different eras of NBA competition. Both teams met in finals of 1960s, 1970s, 80s, 90s as well as playing regularly throughout regular season 2014. Their last regular season meeting occurred on February 5, 2014 when Lakers won 107-103; two will meet again Tuesday for another Battle of California game; its winner could claim one of four Western Conference playoff spots available to them.
