SRH vs LSG

Sunrisers Hyderabad and LSG have both struggled this season, yet a win would help either side strengthen their playoff prospects.

When these two sides met last time at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, Sunrisers Hyderabad came out victorious by 10 wickets.

Rishabh Pant will look to reverse his side’s recent results when they take on Lucknow Super Giants on Monday. Although their chances of reaching the last four are slim, but Digvesh Rathi’s side currently lies seventh with an overall net run-rate of negative 0.469 which may make their task difficult.

SRH enter this matchup as clear favorites, thanks to their in-form unit led by captain Pat Cummins who is in fine touch with the ball.

Furthermore, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium is known to be an advantageous batting ground that offers good bounce and minimal movement for fast bowlers, providing opportunities for high scoring totals to be reached.

Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abhinav Manohar, Sachin Baby, Smaran Ravichandran, Aniket Verma, Harshal Patel, Kamindu Mendis and Wiaan Mulder will make up SRH’s batting core, while Mohammad Shami, Simarjeet Singh Rahul Chahar Adam Zampa Siddharth Srivastava will lead their attack.

LSG have struggled this season to strike a balance with their batting, relying heavily on David Miller’s big hitting. Unfortunately, their middle order has fallen below expectations with only Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad providing any resistance. New Zealand seamer William O’ Rourke should provide LSG with some needed pace and skill boost.

LSG’s bowling department has been an area of great concern and struggled to take early wickets. However, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi can cause trouble with their accurate line and length deliveries that cause issues for opponents.

Match Summary

LSG’s tenuous play-off hopes were dealt a body blow as they suffered their fifth straight defeat against SRH. Abhishek Sharma scored an outstanding 59 off 20 balls to ensure they reached their target with 10 balls to spare and made short work of their target.

As soon as they were put into bat, LSG openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh put on an impressive 115-run partnership from just over 10 overs, though subsequent run chase was difficult to sustain; double figures only reached after Marsh was bowled by Harsh Dubey; some missed chances – including Ishan Kishan having an opportunity to stump Marsh on 61 – further diminished their innings.

SRH’s chase began slowly when Atharva Taide was dismissed by Will O’Rourke in the third over, but Sharma and Ishan Kishan then displayed remarkable aggression, taking full advantage of Powerplay to hit sixes throughout.

Even after Heinrich Klaasen was caught at deep cover by Kishan and Kamindu Mendis retired hurt with what appeared to be a hamstring strain, SRH cruised their way to victory with ease.

Sharma earned himself Player of the Match accolades with an exceptional effort that included six sixes and one four. It marked his fourth fifty of the season – three consecutive for Sunrisers Hyderabad who now boast three wins on their tour!

It was an emphatic win that demonstrated that, despite missing out on top spot, SRH still have enormous potential. Even without Travis Head whose Covid-19 illness has delayed his return, they proved they can score plenty of runs even on big stages – their 206 all out being their highest total this season! Now CSK and RR will fight hard for second spot while this victory puts SRH just one game closer to hosting their own semi-final!

Prediction

As the IPL league phase winds down, both LSG and SRH are fighting hard for playoff survival, with LSG hoping for qualification while SRH playing to maintain pride.

While LSG have enjoyed three wins from their last four matches compared to SRH’s one win – LSG need other teams’ results going their way if they hope to qualify for playoffs.

Both teams will look to improve their bowling after disappointing finishes to the season. Ishan Kishan, SRH’s marquee auction pick has produced just five half centuries this season while Mohammed Shami has not lived up to his billing and completed any games this year.

LSG’s batting has also been an issue; Rishabh Pant has struggled while David Miller hasn’t provided them with enough momentum, forcing them to rely heavily on Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad for victory during the last stages.

Assuming they win the toss, SRH will elect to bowl first on an uneven pitch that generally favors bowlers – it has low bounce and tends to slow down over the course of an innings – however teams chasing have still managed to win 10 out of 19 IPL matches played here!
