RCB vs DC

Virat Kohli set the Royal Challengers Bangalore off on the right foot, flicking Mitchell Starc for six and four successive balls in the opening over. However, after this early success he struggled to build on it, miscuing an Axar Patel pull shot to deep midwicket for 28 off 11 balls; leaving them vulnerable at 22 for 1 with Abishek Porel yet to find his groove after returning from injury.

Axar was, however, an exceptional performer from start to finish, striking two boundaries in his opening over and smashing Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya for sixes in his second over. Retaining him for another over proved brave – however it paid off as Axar skidded one through to remove Devdutt Padikkal (DC’s other left-hander) off his last ball of that over.

Even after suffering that setback, Royal Challengers Bengal have continued their run chase apace. Axar had looked dangerous when he hit Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s leg-break for six in the 15th over; but Hazlewood returned to bowl a crucial wicket by trapping Axar lbw on his back foot while trying to slog one down the ground.

With that, RCB have successfully reached their target with nine balls left, in an incredible turnaround which was made easier by having Tim David at bat – born and bred in Bengaluru!

After losing three in the powerplay, it appeared like Royal Challengers Bangalore might lose control of this match. But after Axar Patel was dismissed for an excellent 56 off 52 balls, Jacob Bethell and Rajat Patidar joined forces to steady the ship from then on, sharing an unbroken 102-run stand to give their visitors hope in the final over.

David’s late assault ensured they held onto victory – now winning six away games this season which highlights Kohli’s decision to keep his best side on tour as long as possible this season. This match underscores its worth as it highlights what value keeping your best side on tour is.
